A combined team of Manipur Police commandos and personnel of Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation at Chaningpokpi village area in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Tuesday, police said.

The operation was conducted in between 5.30 am to 10.30 am.

The search operation was conducted by the combined team of police commandos stationed at, 6 Assam Rifles and 29 Assam Rifles personnel under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Commandos) Robinsun Khamnam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operationa) RK Saklemba and Inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei of Commandos unit, Imphal East district and Jemandar Ibungobi.

One 303 LMG with magazine and 40 rounds, one lethod gun with 2 lethod shell, one country made rifle, three country made pistol with 18 rounds and one country made revolver, all packed in a black polythene bag and hidden in the bushes were recovered during the day’s search operations supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Wungpam Kasar of Imphal East district.

Meanwhile as part of security measures taken up by the Manipur Police stationed at Imphal East district for the upcoming Republic Day celebration, a search operation was conducted at Mahabali crossing near Hafta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district from 5 pm to 5:45 pm on Tuesday.

In the operation conducted by a team comprising of officer-in-charge (Commandos) Imphal East district and 2nd officer-in-charge under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal East district verified around 90 males. Three persons without proper ID have been detected and handed over to Porompat police station for further verification, the source added.
