Rules for implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be rolled out after the COVID-19 situation in the Country is brought under control.
This was informed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Bolpur in West Bengal.
“We will discuss the matter after COVID-19 vaccination starts. Until Corona is brought under control, such a big process can’t be initiated,” Shah said.
Amit Shah was in West Bengal holding election rallies for the BJP in the State.
Elections for the West Bengal Assembly is slated to be held in 2021.
Term of the present Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress Government is scheduled to end on May 30.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has started taking stock of the preparations for upcoming West Bengal Assembly election.
This statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the CAA implementation comes at a time when several organisations across Northeast, especially Assam are up in arms once again against the contentious Act.

The Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS), the students’ wing of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has already announced that it will observe ‘Anti-CAA week’ from December 24 to 31, holding protests and mass conventions in several locations across Assam.
Moreover, other students’ bodies and organisations have also re-launched Anti-CAA demonstrations across Assam.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), which will make its debut in the Assam Assembly Elections in 2021, have also announced that it will contest the State polls primarily on Anti-CAA agenda.
It was on December 11 last year that the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed by the Parliament.
