The Gauhati High Court on Monday granted bail to two tea garden owners involved in the firing incident at Bogidhola tea estate in Golaghat district.

The court granted bail to Bogidhola tea estate owners Sudhir and Samir Roy who were arrested by police for allegedly opened fire on the workers over provident fund dues on December 13.

Fourteen people were injured in the incident of whom eight were referred to Jorhat Medical College Hospital. Nine of them were hit by bullets while the others got injured in the melee.

The incident triggered massive protest across the state.

The incident had taken place after a large number of workers from the Bogidhola Tea Estate had gathered outside the owners’ bungalow to protest against the management for not clearing their dues.

The workers claimed that the owners, Sudhir Roy and Samir Roy, had promised to pay them their bonus by December 12 but had not done so.
