Mizoram BJP president JV Hluna said the party will contest alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha as well as by-election in Mizoram.

However, they are still willing to form alliance with like-minded parties.

JV Hluna expressed that the BJP candidate from Mizoram if wins the Lok Sabha polls 2019 will become a minister in the central government

He said Ram Madhav, the national general Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party and in-charge of the Northeast, had promised the same saying “a Mizo Christian will be a minister in the central government if the BJP secures a Lok Sabha seat”.

The party expects to announce its candidate by March 18 after a meeting with office-bearers in Guwahati.

The Mizoram BJP president lashed out at the Mizo National Front saying that despite being a part of the NEDA, it has neglected the Mizoram BJP segment.

JV Hluna warned the MNF saying that they should have included the lone BJP MLA BD Chakma in the government.

“If they want real development with central funds, our lone MLA should be in the ruling bench,” he said.

JV Hluna expressed confidence of BJP returning to power following the upcoming Lok Sabha elections saying no other party has a prime ministerial candidate.

“No one wants Rahul Gandhi as a PM candidate,” he said.

“If we look at the all India political scenario, BJP and NDA’s chance is bigger and they will get more MPs than 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Modi will become the Prime Minister again and NDA will form government. Mizos need to have our own BJP MP, so we can have more access in the Centre,” said the state BJP leader.

Speaking on the importance of Mizoram having a BJP candidate as MP, JV Hluna said, “We need proper representation as it will make a bigger impact to support the bills concerning MIzoram.”
