Former CM Mukul Sangma

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Tuesday questioned the BJP for not fulfilling its promise to lift the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya despite running the government, and alleged that chief minister Conrad K Sangma is the “nominee” of the saffron party.

Interacting with reporters at his new official Sherwood Bungalow here, Mukul recalled that during elections, many BJP leaders had promised to the people of the state that they would lift the ban on coal mining within six months after coming to power.

On a point that the BJP is part of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, Mukul said that the BJP run the government with Conrad as its “nominee” chief minister in Meghalaya.

Lambasting the BJP and the NDA government at the Centre, Mukul predicted that the align would change in 2019 because of the “anti-people” agendas of the BJP and the NDA government.

“A non-BJP government will be there in 2019,” Mukul said, while claiming that there is no alternative in the country except the Congress.

He also alleged that other parties are not serious in fighting against the BJP, and they instead busy in creating division among the people.

“People thought that the BJP was an alternative, but now they realized and have seen things that had happened in the country,” the former Meghalaya chief minister said.

On question mark being raised about the leadership of Congress president, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Mukul said that the question mark was raised by the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as their job has been to create perception against leaders.
