The BJP has come under fire over an image from the prayer meet of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, who passed away in Lucknow on Saturday.

In the photo tweeted by the BJP, a party flag can be seen placed over the national flag at the tribute ceremony of the BJP leader in New Delhi.

Singh passed in a hospital in Lucknow at the age of 89 on Saturday night.

In the picture, Kalyan Singh’s mortal remains were seen to be covered by the national flag.

However, the tricolour was partially covered by the party flag of the BJP.

“Is it ok to place party flag over Indian flag in New India?” questioned Srivivas BV, the chief of the Youth Congress, while sharing the picture from the prayer meet in Lucknow.

“Party above the Nation. The flag above the Tricolor. BJP as usual: no regret, no repentance, no sorrow, no grief,” Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari said in a tweet.

Besides PM Modi, BJP chief JP Nadda, UP Governor Anandiben Patel, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma attended the prayer meet in Lucknow
