The Indian Air Force (IAF) has constituted a tri-service Court of Inquiry to probe and ascertain facts that led to the crash of its Mi-17v5 helicopter on December 8.
The helicopter crash on December 8 at Coonoor in Tamil Nadu led to the deaths of chief of defence staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other security personnel.
“IAF has constituted a tri-service Court of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the tragic helicopter accident on December 8, 2021,” the IAF said.
It added: “The inquiry would be completed expeditiously and acts brought out.”

Meanwhile, the flight data recorder (FDR), commonly known as black box, of the ill-fated IAF helicopter was retrieved by defence officials from the crash site on Thursday.
The black box was recovered from near the wreckage of the crashed helicopter.
Recovery of the black box would ascertain the exact reason of the crash that led to the demise of 13 military officials including CDS Bipin Rawat.
