The impounded dumpers kept at Tangla PS.
As part of a drive launched by Bhergaon Police in Udalguri district to prevent overloaded vehicles, especially heavy materials-laden dumpers from plying on the Mangaldai-Bhutiachang road, a total of 14 dumpers were impounded in the last two days.
The drive was led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Bhergaon, Barun Purkayastha.
While talking to media persons, Purkayastha said, “The dumpers were carrying stones beyond permissible limit.We have also detected discrepancies even in the challans. The drivers of the dumpers also use to manipulate the dates and resort to fraudulent means.”
He added, “We have registered cases and strict action will be taken against the operators of overloaded dumpers. The drivers and operators have been booked under sections 420,468,379 of IPC.”
The drive was highly lauded by locals which was launched in the light of recent complaints lodged by the public and students’ organizations.
The dumpers have had created nuisance which was behind scores of hit-and-run incidents on Mangaldai-Bhutiachang road in the past year.
It is pertinent to mention that the high-speeding overloaded dumpers plying on the Mangaldai-Bhutiachang State Highway 4 carrying construction materials, of late, have started unleashing havoc giving nightmare to the people of Tangla town and its sub-urban areas.
Various students’ organizations and locals have demanded diversion of the dumpers’ route to Panery-Bengbaroi-Mekenzi road.
