In the wake of protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB),   Dibrugarh district administration on Sunday cancelled a musical event  of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg’s citing ‘security reasons’.

Zubeen was due to perform at an event in Dibrugarh on Sunday evening.

Zubeen’s event was cancelled apparently because of his anti-CAB stand, said the fans of the singer.

The popular Assamese singer has been constantly raising his voice against the contentious bill.

Earlier, Zubeen wrote an open letter to the Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal raising his voice against the CAB.

Reacting to administration’s decision, Zubeen said such acts of the government can not deter him from opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

“I appeal everybody to come out and protest against the Bill. Recently, I have joined hands with the students in the protest against the bill at Cotton University and I will continue my protest against the controversial bill,” Zubeen told reporters on Sunday.

He said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will harm the Assamese culture.

“We appeal everyone to protest in a peaceful manner and not resort to violence,” Zubeen added.

He also appealed to actor Jatin Bora to resign from the BJP protesting the Bill.

Bora is currently chairman of state government-run Assam State Film Finance Development Corporation.

“I have called upon Jatin Bora to quit BJP but why he is not resigning I don’t know,” Zubeen added.
