Amid Covid19 pandemic, a 25-year-old youth died on Tuesday during a blast in a fire extinguisher filling shop in Guwahati.

The youth, identified as Mridul Deka, a resident of Azara in Nalbari district, was an employee of the shop.

The incident of explosion took place at the fire extinguisher filling shop, named as Lifecare Equipment, located at Rukmini Nagar in the city.

The blast took place between 12.30 pm-1 pm on Tuesday.

The explosion was so powerful that Mridul, who was busy working in the shop, was seriously injured.

He was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) where he was declared dead by the doctors.

According to sources, the shop, run by Prashanta Bharali, is registered in the name of his wife, Minati Bharali of Rukmini Nagar.

Prashanta Bharali refused to talk to the media regarding the incident.

Sources said Tuesday was the first day of Mridul’s joining his duty after lockdown relaxations.

During the explosion, there was no other person in the shop except the deceased.

On being informed, a police team from Dispur police station rushed to the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
