19-year-old Madhurya Saikia won the Young Achiever’s Award presented by Dalmia Cement. The award was given on the 31st foundation day of Shishu Sarothi. The foundation day celebrations of Shishu Sarothi was held in association with Dalmia Bharat Cement.

Saikia, is an alumnus of Shishu Sarothi who got the award for writing a book on tennis and also for qualifying for umpiring by overcoming his disability.

Madhurya, who is a person with disability, was selected for umpiring two tennis tournaments till date – Super Series under 12 and Super Series under 18 held in June and July 2017 in Guwahati.

In May 2017, Madhurya got selected in his first attempt along with 25 others to attend a course of ITF (International Tennis Federation)/AITA (All India Tennis Association) conducted in the All Assam Tennis Association Complex, Guwahati and is certified for tennis umpiring for matches held anywhere in India.

Presenting the award to Madhurya, Sunil Aggarwal, head, Sales and Marketing, Dalmia Bharat Cement, lauded Madhurya and Shishu Sarothi for their exemplary deeds in the field.

Fun games, food, cultural programmes, etc. This year the theme of the day was ‘Rainbow’ which aligns with the vision of an inclusive society where the different abilities of children are celebrated.

Dalmia Bharat Cement’s Young Achiever’s Award is an initiative to promote, highlight and recognise young people of the North East for their exemplary contributions in their respective fields.

Shishu Sarothi has been striving to empower persons with disabilities in the North East by providing education, rehabilitation, training, employment, protection of rights, etc.
