“We must build a society based on spirituality and moral values and we should try and lead a life guided by the ideals of Lord Krishna,” said Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Majuli Raas Festival at Garamur Mini Stadium in the river district on Monday.
“Majuli is a divine place and whoever comes to the river island during the Raas Festival receives blessings from Lord Krishna,” Sonowal added.

With an aim to promote Raas Festival of Majuli, the Assam tourism department from 2019 onwards has decided to celebrate the festival in a grand way.
The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), in fact, has collaborated with social media site Instagram this year to reach out to more tourists within and abroad the country.
With an aim to promote tourism in Majuli, a dedicated website www.majuliraas.in was also launched by CM Sonowal recently.

The objective of the website is to project Majuli as an epicentre of Satra culture and a seat of mythological tourism globally by having all kinds of information on the festival.
Calling the people of Majuli to show an example of generous hospitality to the visiting tourists, Chief Minister Sonowal said, “Indian culture is based on the motto of Atithi Devo Bhava.”
“Majuli’s natural beauty, legacy, cultural heritage and history must be preserved and in this regard, you all have an important role to play in this regard,” Sonowal said.
