Union Jalshakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday conducted an aerial survey of the flood ravaged areas in upper Assam.

The union minister arrived at the Dibrugarh airport by flight from where he boarded a special helicopter to carry out the aerial survey accompanied by state water resources minister Keshab Mahanta.

Mahanta briefed him on relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures taken up by the state government.

The minister also landed at Majuli where he visited a flood relief camp, talked to the camp inmates and took stock of the relief measures.

Assam has been facing one of the worst floods in recent times with nearly 43 lakh people affected by the natural calamities.

As many as 30 districts out of 33 districts of the state have been reeling under flood.

The NDRF, SDRF and other agencies have been involved in rescue operations while the Army has been kept on standby.

The world famous Kaziranga National Park and the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park have also been inundated by flood waters.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all help and cooperation to Assam as the state is facing one of the most devastating floods in recent times.

Modi on Monday spoke to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on phone where he was apprised about the flood situation.
