Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka, today said that the Tezpur University has a duty to take part in the government’s policy of education for all.

Formerly Dean, Director AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof. Deka who addressed the 16th Convocation of Tezpur University (TU) as the chief guest  held today  called upon the university community to fulfill the responsibility of promoting the government of India’s higher education policy called RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan).

Speaking on the Tezpur town that has also two science institutions like a state Medical college and a mental health institution he urged the TU to collaborate with these institutions for undertaking inter and multidisciplinary research activities in health sciences. “The University could play a major role in doing both basic researches from cell, genes and life chemistry point of views and stimulate health care group to share with them and bring out a convergent care strategy in disease control and care,” he said

It is to be mentioned that in this convocation a total of 1132 students were conferred upon degrees and Diplomas among which 51 are Phds; 674 are masters; 352 are Under Graduates (Be. Tech/B.Sc/ BA); 25 are PG Diplomas and 30 are Degrees and diplomas under the Open and distance Learning programmes. Moreover toppers of the university 39 programmes have qualified for a Gold medal each.

Conferring the Degrees and Diplomas to the students Chancellor of the University cum Guv Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that Tezpur University has a very special status in the heart and minds of the people of Assam.

“As a product of the historic Assam Accord it was established with the objective of addressing the regional aspirations of the people of this land while being informed by global technological innovations and human developments indices. I am confident that as the University is going to celebrate silver jubilee the university is established as an institution with a distinct culture a place of pursuit of knowledge in an idyllic campus with a steadfast dedication towards excellence.” The Chancellor said.

The Vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Vinod Kr. Jain said “While it is for the conscious citizens of the country to asses our academic trajectory and accomplishments, we can submit that this university has carved a niche among the most respectable institutions of the country and beyond due to the sincere and dedicated involvement of the students, faculty and the staff of the university.”
