After four years in jail, former media baron and INX chief strategy officer Peter Mukerjea was released on bail on Friday in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Mukerjea, arrested in 2015, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court last month and the six-week stay on the High Court order ended on Friday.

According to media reports, the CBI, which arrested the former media baron and husband of Sheena Bora’s mother Indrani Mukerjea, did not approach the Supreme Court challenging his bail.

The Bombay High Court granted bail to Peter Mukerjea on February 6 in the Sheena Bora murder case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested him on November 19, 2015, for allegedly being part of the murder conspiracy of his step-daughter Sheena Bora.

However, the Bombay High Court has ruled that there was no evidence to show his prima facie involvement in the murder.

The High Court bench of Justice Nitin Sambre also took into consideration the health issue of Mukerjea who has undergone bypass surgery.

The matter of Mukerjea languishing in jail for 4 years was also considered by the court.

The Bombay High Court granted Mukerjea bail on a surety of Rs. 2,00,000.

However, the High Court directed Mukerjea not to contact his son, daughter and other witnesses in the case.

Although the High Court granted Mukerjea bail last month, it had stayed its order for a period of six weeks so that the CBI could file an appeal in the apex court.

The court reserved order on prime accused Indrani Mukerjee’s plea to turn approver in INX media case.

It may be mentioned that Peter Mukerjea’s former wife Indrani Mukherjea, who originally hailed from Assam, and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna are the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder of Bora.

Sheena Bora was murdered on April 24, 2012.

But the murder incident came to light only in 2015 following the arrest of Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyamwar Rai in another case.
