Senior journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty has been removed as the adviser of Raijor Batori, a newspaper published by Information and Public Relation department, following public outrage over his comments made against two particular communities.
Two complaints were lodged against Chakraborty for his comment that Nagas should be killed in the border if they make any incursion attempt in Assam.
The Information and Public Relation department sacked Chakarborty on Tuesday as the adviser of the newspaper published by the department.
Chakraborty in a book launch function in the presence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Dispur had said that Naga’s aggression to Assam can be stopped by killing 50 Nagas at the border by Assam Police.
Chakaraborty also allegedly made a derogatory remark against Kalita community after activist Kamal Kumar Medhi had filed a complaint against him at Chandmari police station of the city.
Another FIR was lodged with Jalukbari police station by Monmohan Das and Samarjyoti Bezbaruah stating that the statement of Chakraborty might create disturbances among the people of the two neighbouring States.
A massive public outrage erupted against Chakraborty after his alleged derogatory remark against the Kalita community.
Social networking site Facebook has been flooded with comments condemning Chakraborty’s statement.
Earlier in the day, Chakraborty said that he has taken voluntary retirement from all spheres of public life and people of Assam can consider him dead.
“I have taken retirement from public life including Assam Sahitya Sabha. People of Assam can consider me dead,” he told reporters.
