A rare mandarin duck has been spotted in Assam’s Maguri Motapung Beel.
Mandarin duck is a native of East Asia countries – China and Japan.
The mandarin duck is widely regarded as the world’s most beautiful duck.
This is for the first time that a mandarin duck has been spotted in Assam in over a 100 years.
A mandarin duck was last seen in Maguri beel way back in 1902.
The mandarin duck was spotted by a team of experts from the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI).
Chief Executive Officer of WTI, Vivek Menon announced the arrival of this winged visitor.

The Maguri Motapung Beel is situated near the Baghjan village in Eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district.
The Maguri Beel was at the receiving end last year following a blowout in the well number 5 of the Baghjan oilfields of the Oil India limited (OIL).
