Over 240 illegal petition writers have been arrested in Assam.

This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

These illegal petition writers allegedly seek money to write petitions.

They allegedly add irrelevant sections of laws while drafting the petitions.

These over 240 illegal petition writers were arrested from different parts of Assam.

Warning such illegal petition writers, CM Sarma said that more arrests will be made soon.

The Assam police have arrested as many as 242 illegal petition writers since Saturday.

20-25 more arrests are likely to be made soon, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Such petition writers manipulate petitioners by adding wrong sections of law in the complaints.

Irrelevant sections of law in petitions make cases unnecessarily complicated, the chief minister said.

Notably, the Assam CM, in November last year, had warned of a crackdown against illegal petition writers.

Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that it is the job of the sub-inspectors to draft the complaints.

“People should not pay for the writing complaints,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.

Earlier, the Assam government had launched a similar crackdown on illegal land brokers.

In September last year, over 500 alleged illegal land brokers were arrested across Assam.
