The sleuths of Crime Branch (Guwahati), along with Udalguri police one Himangshu Narzary in connection with the murder of a septuagenarian engineer in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Narzary was arrested on Friday from his residence in Udalguri after the police launched a massive man-hunt.

Paresh Chandra Baruah (72), a resident of Dispur area in Guwahati, was found murdered on Wednesday with his body covered by a bedsheet.

Police informed Baruah had employed Narzary as a driver and he was relieved of his duties a couple of months back.

“Narzary was camping in Guwahati from Monday- two days before the murder,” police sources informed.

“However, his phone was found switched off after Baruah’s murder came to light,” sources added.

The deceased was a former employee of the Pollution Control Board, Assam, and is survived by his wife and two children.

His wife, Garima Saikia Baruah, is a Guwahati-based physician.

Police are still investigating the murder and the reasons for the murder is yet to be ascertained.
