Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the citizenship of a person will never be affected in any way by religion and assured that there should be no fear about the country wide NRC exercise as the one carried out in Assam.

While addressing a joint delegation of Muslim outfits Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind at his residence on Saturday, Shah said that no person will be harassed in the name of religion.
As per a statement issued by the joint delegation of the Muslim outfits, Shah had assured them that the government is ready to talk to all the Muslim organizations of the country with an open heart.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind general secretary Mehmood Madani told the home minister that attempts are being made to harass Muslims in Assam through NRC exercise in the state, the statement said.
Madani also added that the home minister’s statement regarding the country wide NRC exercise is being taken as a threat.
In reply to Madani’s queries, Shah said that the NRC exercise should not spread fear among the people.
The home minister also said that free legal aid will be provided to the people who have been excluded from the final NRC list in Assam.
The statement further mentioned that the home minister even asked the Muslim outfits to name one country which had not carried out an exercise similar to implementation of NRC.
