The ministry of home affairs (MHA) has stated that no amendments to the unlawful activities (prevention) act (UAPA) is under consideration.
The MHA informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday in reply to a question on whether the government plans to amend the Act.
“Presently, no amendments in UAPA are under consideration,” the MHA informed the Lok Sabha.
According to a report published by the national crime records bureau (NCRB) in September Manipur, Assam and Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of cases under ‘Offences against State’.

‘Offences against State’ includes cases booked under sedition, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Official Secrets Act, damage to public property, and imputation, assertions prejudicial to national integration.
Recently, Tripura police had booked 102 persons including journalists, advocates and social activists under UAPA in connection with social media post relating to communal violence in the state.
