The Sivasagar district administration has imposed night curfew in areas along Assam-Nagaland inter-state border in the district.

Accordingly, night curfew under Section 144 CrPC has been reinforced from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am in the areas of Assam side bordering Nagaland and thereby prohibiting the movement of any person, group of persons and any vehicular traffic in the five kilometers belt of Assam side in Sivasagar district bordering Nagaland.

The areas where the restrictions have been imposed are: Haluwating, Gelekey, and Bihubor police station of Assam-Nagaland border.

The restrictions have been imposed to prevent anti-social elements and extremists coming across the Assam- Nagaland border.

The restrictions have also been imposed to prevent any unlawful activities resulting in injury or loss of human life, extortion and destruction of national and public properties in the bordering areas of Assam- Nagaland border falling within the district of Sivasagar.

The order further stated that it has made to appear to the district administration that under prevailing law and order situation in the areas, there are sufficient grounds for taking precautionary measures to prevent occurrence of such untoward incidents in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquility in the district.

Through another notification, the additional district magistrate has imposed some restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in the district with immediate effect.

The order prohibits forming of assembly of five or more persons for unlawful purposes; holding of meeting or demonstration, rallies, taking out procession or shouting any slogans on any road, public places, creating swahid bedies, wall-writing, printing slogans etc at any thoroughfare or other places on any visible site, individually or collectively; collection and subscription in any manner or from any person, business establishments, office or intimidation of any person for such collection.

However, magistrate, security personnel of Army, CRPF, police and civil officials deployed on duty are exempted from the purview of this prohibitory order besides any authorized person engaged on government duty and those exempted by or under authority from district magistrate, additional district magistrate or sub-divisional magistrate of Sivasagar and Nazira.

Another order has been issued prohibiting the movement of two-wheelers with pillion ridings on any road, street, bye-lane, passage, thoroughfare, village paths, and tracks within Sivasagar district with immediate effect.

However, in respect of persons above 60 years of age, children below 12 years, women, all officers and employees of State Government, Central Government, Police personnel on duty are exempted from the purview of pillion riding.

This order has been passed in pursuance of information received that there are frequent movement of extremist and miscreants on two-wheelers with pillion rider, moving in the areas throughout the district of Sivasagar during both day and night hours.

Hence, apprehending the possibility of committing unlawful acts of terrorism and act of shooting, killing, extortion and looting etc. by these anti-social elements the prohibitory order has been imposed.

The orders have come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of 60 days.

Any violation of the orders will be punishable under provisions of Section 188 IPC.
