The Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) have stepped up security arrangements in the greater Guwahati region as well as in the rest of the State due to puja celebrations.

Nripen Bhattacharya, Public Relations Officer of NF Railway (NFR), said that night patrolling to check the railway tracks in the greater Guwahati area was started on Sunday by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

RPF has deployed uniformed and plainclothes personnel in Guwahati and all other major stations across the region.

“They are not only monitoring the platforms but also the nearby areas. A dog squad has been deployed at the Guwahati Railway Station. Checking at the gates has been beefed up at all railway stations. We don’t want to take any chances and so security has been heightened,” he said, adding all the big stations like Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia are under constant CCTV surveillance.

At the Guwahati station, there are 36 CCTV cameras. RPF monitors 24 of those, while the remaining 12 are monitored by the Government Railway Police (GRP), reports The Assam Tribune.

Bhattacharya said flying squads of RPF are always present at all the long-distance trains.
