Mizoram Police has sought details about the 26 Myanmar nationals, who were arrested in Guwahati with forged Indian documents allegedly made in Mizoram, a senior police officer said.
Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John Neihlaia said the state government was not aware of the arrested Myanmar nationals and their fake documents.
“We have instructed our men to write a formal letter to Assam Police seeking detailed information of the Myanmar nationals and their fake documents so that we can verify them and take necessary action as per law,” Neihlaia said.
He said legal action will be taken against the persons involved in forging the fake documents if they are really made in Mizoram.

According to the IGP, Mizoram Police used to experience similar cases in the past, but such fake documents were forged mainly in Delhi, Bangalore and other Indian states, including Manipur.
He claimed that fake documents, be it Aadhar or Voter cards, are hardly forged in the state.
“Right now, we are not sure about the fake documents. They could have been forged in Mizoram as well. But we are seeking detailed information from Assam Police. We will take legal action if they are made in Mizoram,” Neihlaia said.
He added that the Mizoram Police will cooperate with their Assam counterparts in the investigation.
At least 26 Myanmar nationals, including 10 women, who were possessing fake Indian documents, were arrested by Assam Police from a lodge in Guwahati on Sunday.
All those arrested, including seven teenagers, were from various districts of Myanmar’s Chin state and arrived from Mizoram, police said.
“Based on source information, a raid was conducted in Ms Kamrupa Lodge (Muana Run) at Rihabari and 26 suspected persons (16 male and 10 female) were apprehended,” Assam Police said in an official statement.
“Upon interrogation, it was found out the apprehended persons are citizens of Chin state of Myanmar and they were on their way to Delhi to study Bible (theology),” Assam Police added.
Forged documents, such as Aadhar cards, Voter ID and others identity cards that were made in Mizoram, were also recovered from their possession, the statement said.
Police have registered a case at the Paltan Bazar police station under section 468 of IPC, section 14 of Foreigners Act 1946, and relevant sections of Passport(Entry into India) Act 1920 and Passport(Entry into India) Rules, 1950.
