Mizoram will not pursue the ‘theft’ case it registered against Assam Police. 

The decision was taken after the alleged stolen construction materials were returned by the Assam police to Mizoram police. 

This was informed by Kolasib Superintendent of Police (SP) Vanlalfaka Ralte on Monday. 

The Assam Police returned the alleged stolen material following a chat between the officials of both the state police forces.

A theft case was filed against personnel of Assam police for allegedly stealing away construction materials belonging to Mizoram from the inter-state border area. 

Kolasib deputy commissioner H. Lalthlangliana said that personnel of Assam police have entered Mizoram territory at Zophai area near Bairabi town in Kolasib district which borders Assam’s Hailakandi district and allegedly stole some construction materials, including iron rods, from a bridge construction site. 

Bairabi’s Zophai area is one of the flashpoints of a border dispute between Mizoram and Assam.
