A non-profit organization Root Bridge Foundation, has opened Majuli Cycle Café at Garamur in Majuli on Sunday. Majuli Deputy Commissioner PG Jha inaugurated the café.

Root Bridge Foundation wants to foster sustainable tourism practices in the Northeast and promote carbon free travel.

The café is a state-of-the-art facilitation centre for both hosting communities and tourists.

It consists of a coffee shop, cycle rental place, library, art gallery, village shop and space for art performance.

Different textile products like table runners, table mats, shawls are available at the Café. The library books in café are arranged through crowd sourcing.

The café is a part of Majuli Sustainable Tourism Development Project (MSTDP), an initiative of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ADTC), in association with Root Bridge Foundation for the promotion of cycle tourism in world’s largest river delta, Majuli, informed a district administration official.

“Each product consists of a story note so that the customers can understand the history and legends of each community, their handicrafts and life,” added the official.
