A notorious drug peddler of Lower Assam was arrested by Chirang Police on Wednesday.

The drug peddler, identified as Sanuar Rahman, was arrested during a joint operation with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) while he was attempting to deliver suspected psychotropic substances.

“An operation against organised drugs trafficking was conducted today from 4.30 PM onwards by Chirang Police, led by Prakash Medhi, Additional SP (HQ), Chirang along with 15 Bn SSB personnel of Kajalgaon in Chapaguri area,” said police sources.

“During the operation, the police team was able to arrest 24-year-old drug peddler, Sanuar Rahman, son of Soleman Miya of Kawatika village under Bijni police station in Chirang district,” sources added.

Chirang additional SP Medhi said, “Till now, more than 15 drug peddlers have been arrested by Chirang Police from various locations of the district and the bordering districts.”

He informed that during operation Chirang Police recovered 30 plastic containers containing suspected psychotropic substances and one empty container, one mobile handset, two syringes, Indian currency notes of Rs 500, one motorcycle, bearing registration no. AS19-M-3393.

“Further follow-up action is being taken,” the police officer added.
