The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) authorities are getting ready to tackle the floods with a slew of initiatives.

The Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division ( Kaziranga), Rohini Ballav Saikia informed that several speed boats have been kept stand by at different locations in order to take prompt action to save wild animals during high floods.

“Moreover, we are also taking steps to set up floating forest camps during emergency situation. Floating camps will be equipped with forest guards so that they can compete with any adverse situation,” he said, adding that floating camps will also help patrolling in the remote areas of the park.

At a recently held review meeting at the Kaziranga National Park, attended by senior forest officials, where new measures to be initiated were discussed.

“We have also suggested reducing the use of speed boats because of high sounds,” the senior official informed.

DFO Saikia said that an application has been developed by the NIC, Jorhat which would help the forest guards while performing duties at check gates in Kaziranga to monitor the movements of the vehicles, reports The Assam Tribune.

Meanwhile, Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation Center CWRC) and Forest Veterinary unit of the Kaziranga National Park has made special arrangements to keep mobile veterinary units at the western range of Bagori and Burapahar range in order to provide services to the wild animals.
