Azara Police on Sunday arrested Bhargav Deka, one of the prime accused in the case related to use of a proxy candidate in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020.
Deka owns Global Edulite, a Guwahati-based coaching centre, was arrested by the police as he landed at Guwahati Airport, Borjhar.

According to reports, Deka fled to Bangkok after the police started an investigation into the case.
“Accused Bhargav Deka of JEE examination case arrested today evening from Borjhar airport,” the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of Assam Police headquarters said in a statement.
On Sunday, a team of Azara Police also raided the house of Kakali Bujarbarua, an employee of Global Edulite.
On October 28, the police arrested a total of 5 persons, including a Guwahati-based specialist doctor, in connection with the case.
A case (No 624/2020) was registered in Azara PS under sections 120(b)/419/420/406 IPC r/w 66D IT Act after an FIR was lodged stating that a student from Assam topped JEE Mains 2020 using a proxy to sit in the exam on his behalf.
The arrested specialist doctor was identified as Dr Jyotirmoy Das.
The FIR was lodged by one Mitradev Sharma on October 23 and on the basis of the FIR, Azara police started a probe and arrested the 5 culprits involved in the scam.
Dr Jyotirmoy Das is a gynecologist of Down Town Hospital in Guwahati.
Dr Das allegedly asked the proxy candidate to sit in the examination on behalf of his son, Neel Nakshatra Das.
Neel Nakshatra Das topped JEE Mains 2020 from Assam by scoring 99.8%.
JEE Mains 2002 was held on September 5.
