India is reportedly planning to construct a multi-purpose reservoir in Arunachal Pradesh to counter the impact of Chinese hydropower project on Brahmaputra in Tibet.
According to reports, the multi-purpose 10,000 MW hydropower project is under consideration, which will help offset the impact of the hydropower project by China.
The multi-purpose reservoir which is proposed to be constructed on the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh, will take the excess load of water discharge and can even store water in case of any deficit.
The project reportedly has been under consideration since the 1980s.
Notably, Brahmaputra, one of the longest rivers in the world passes through China, India and Bangladesh.
Brahmaputra also has several tributaries and sub-tributaries.
Originating in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), the trans-border Yarlung Zangbo flows into Arunachal Pradesh where it is called Siang and then to Assam as Brahmaputra.

Earlier, reports emerged that China is planning to build a major dam on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo (Brahmaputra river) river close to the McMohan Line in Tibet.
As per reports, a proposal for this has been put forward in the 14th Five-Year Plan to be implemented from next year.
China has already built several smaller dams on the Yarlung Zangbo river.
Meanwhile, proposals for dams on the Brahmaputra have evoked concerns in India and Bangladesh, the riparian states.
However, China has downplayed such anxieties saying it would keep their interests in mind.
