IIT Guwahati has expelled a student, who was accused of raping a girl student of the institute.

The student, who got bail from the Gauhati High Court, on the ground that he is a “future asset”, has been terminated for “gross indiscipline” perpetrated by him, violating the students’ code of conduct, says a media report.

According to the report, the IIT Guwahati Senate unanimously took the decision to give exemplary punishment to the accused student as the institute would not compromise on the safety of women in the campus.

The police arrested a 21-year-old student of IIT Guwahati on April 3, 2021 on charges of “sexually assaulting” a girl student of the institute on March 28, 2021.
