As the COVID-19 cases in Assam continue to rise, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that he cannot “convince the COVID-19 to go away”.
Speaking to the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Corona is not a person and I cannot ask it to go away. I can only take precautions so that the people in the state are safe and healthy.”
He added that the cases in the state have seen a rising trend and now it is time for people to take all possible measures to stay safe from it.

“There is no problem in celebrating Bihu but we took the measures of curfew and all only to save our youth from the COVID. Even if they celebrate the festival with all precautions and then stay together in a bhela ghar they might be affected with COVID”, he added.
The CM said that the curfew and restrictions were made to prevent this as the ones who might be affected will be “Assamese youth”.

“We had allowed the New Years’s celebration because the cases were quite low but now the cases are high and so the restrictions are in place”, he added.
