A woman died and four security personnel sustained grievous injuries when State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta’s convoy met with an accident on Tuesday morning on National Highway 37 at Saragaon under Raha police station in Nagaon district.
The woman died on the spot when she was hit by a speedy vehicle of Mahanta’s convoy while she was crossing the National Highway, a police official told NE Now.
The Raha police station official said the four security personal sustained serious injuries as the vehicle they were traveling in turned turtle.
The killed woman has been identified as Minu Devi of Saragaon village. She was taken to a hospital in Nagaon where he was declared brought dead.
The injured security men have been rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), added the police official.
Minister Mahanta was not available for comments as his mobile phone was found switched off.
