Several states of Northeast India will witness “heavy to very heavy rainfall” on Monday while “heavy rainfall” will lash the region in the next four days.
This has come to light in the latest weather forecast by the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday evening.
The NWFC in its All India Weather Warning Bulletin said several places in Sikkim are likely to be hit by “heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls” on Monday.
It also forecast “heavy to very heavy rainfall” at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya and “heavy rainfall” at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Monday.
“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places” over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the bulletin said.
The NWFC in its bulletin said on Tuesday, “heavy to very heavy rainfall” is “very likely” to hit isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya.
It also forecast “heavy rainfall” at isolated places over Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Tuesday.
The NWFC in the bulletin said, on Wednesday, “heavy rainfall” is “very likely” to hit isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
However, on Thursday, the region will get respite from “heavy rainfall”.
But on Friday, “heavy rainfall” is likely to lash isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
With the Durga Puja festival beginning on Friday, “heavy rainfall” is likely to dampen the festive spirit of the people of the Northeastern states, mainly in Assam, Tripura and Sikkim where the festival is celebrated with much fanfare and religious fervour.
