Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that hospitals in the state have adequate stocks of the Remdesivir injections to treat Covid-19 patients.
The health minister’s claims come amidst spiraling cases of Covid -19 cases in Assam.
The Remdesivir injection is an anti-viral that is injected into adults and children of 12 years or above to treat Covid-19.
The injection prevents the virus from spreading in the body of an affected person.
Sarma also said that there are adequate stocks of oxygen to administer to patients suffering from respiratory problems.

“I wish to reassure citizens of Assam that as of now we have adequate stock of Remdesivir Injections. In fact few days ago, we helped Govts of Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand with some supply. I am continuously monitoring supply of oxygen and Remdesivir so that we face no shortage,” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
A total of 573 tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours Assam, with 245 testing positive in Kamrup (Metro) district alone.
The disease has claimed the lives of four more people, taking Assam’s total death toll to 1,127.
A total of 2,22,940 positive cases have been detected in the state, of which 4,089 are active cases.
Although Kamrup (Meto) has the highest caseload in Assam, lack of restrictions is resulting in people adopting a lack sided approach to the disease.
A large percentage of the district’s population do not follow protocols like using hand sanitizers and wearing face masks.
Apart from this large crowds are frequently noticed in public places, with people not following to social distancing in any manner.
