Guwahati Ropeway

Within 48 hours of the official launch by Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, operations of Guwahati ropeway was suspended on Wednesday because of some technical snag.

The ropeway, which connects Guwahati and North Guwahati, was formally launched on Monday.

Officials of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), the custodian of the ropeway are tight-lipped with the technical glitch.

The ropeway is two km long, and covers the distance shall be covered in seven minutes. Each carriage carries 32 passengers at a time.

The technical glitch was reported on Wednesday morning, sources said, adding that something was wrong with the engine of the ropeway.

Because of Covid19 pandemic, the inauguration of the ropeway was delayed.

The GMDA authorities decided to allow only 15 passengers because of the pandemic, and every passenger will have to wear protective gear as well.

One way of the ride would costs Rs 60, while a fare for two-way commute is Rs 100.
