Guwahati city

Guwahati is not equipped to manage urbanization and its aspiration of becoming a Smart City is still a distant dream, reveals Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS).

Guwahati ranked 14th from 23 cities in the survey and earned a score of .8 out of 10.

According to reports, Guwahati has yet to meet several challenges that need urgent attention. Some of the major drawbacks are public utilities like roads, footpaths, bus stops and sewage network.

Weak finance system and poor human resource management are also two major concerns of the city.

Besides, absence of platforms for systematic citizen participation, lack of transparency in finances and operations of cities, and limited powers of municipal were also found to be key hurdles.

The poor rating of the city in the survey has indicated that Guwahati is still not prepared to deliver a high quality life to its residents.
