Guwahati Medical College student found dead at hostel campus

A 23-year-old medical student was found dead in his hostel campus of Guwahati Medical College (GMC) on Monday night.

Police said Nimching Panmei, a final year MBBS student of Guwahati Medical College was found dead at the campus of the hostel number 4 of the medical college.

Panmei hailed from Dima Hasao district and was an inmate of room no 113 of the hostel.

The reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained, police said.

According to police, the body was found in a semi-naked state and there were injury marks on the head and face of the student.

“He was a resident of Dima Hasao. What happened is very unfortunate. We are looking into what happened. Cannot share more details now,” GMC principal Dr Achyut Baishya said.
