Due to damp pitch following rains, the Guwahati match of the India-Sri Lanka T20 International series at Barsapara Cricket stadium was abandoned on Sunday.
Incessant rain delayed the start of the first match of the three-match T20I between India and Sri Lanka.
Even though the rain stopped completely, but a wet outfield and rain sipping into the main pitch left the fate of the match hanging by a thread.

The umpires after inspecting the playing condition declared the match as ‘abandoned’ at around 10 pm.
The BCCI on its Twitter handle stated: “Not the news that we would want to hear, but the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka has been abandoned due to rain.”

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
People from across Assam and the Northeast came down to Guwahati to watch the match between the two Asian rivals.
As soon as the faces of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and ATDC chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah were shown on big screens inside the stadium, the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) supporters, who came to enjoy the match, shouted slogans like ‘Sarbananda Sonowal Go Back’, ‘Himanta Biswa Go Back’ and ‘Jayanta Malla Go Back’.

One of the spectators also waved a black flag as a mark of protest against the CAA.
However, the black flag was taken away by the police.

Meanwhile, the spectators, who had booked their tickets online, will get back their money through their bank accounts.
This was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Assam Cricket Association.
