Former professor of Cotton College (now Cotton University) Dr Jyotsna Bhattacharjee died of Covid19 infection in a private hospital in Guwahati on Monday.

Dr Bhattacharjee served as the Head of the Department of Philosophy of Cotton College (now Cotton University) and principal of Angelica Junior College.

She was undergoing treatment at Nemcare Hospital in the city.

Former professor Bhattacharjee was around 90 years at the time of her demise.

She was a well-known columnist.

Her articles were published in a number of newspapers.

A resident of Bhangagarh in Guwahati, Dr Bhattacharjee also wrote books on philosophy for students.

Assam on Monday recorded the highest single-day spike of 92 deaths due to Covid19.

The state reported a total of 6,394 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

The new cases were confirmed out of 91,481 tests.

The overall positivity percentage in Assam stood at 6.99% on Monday, according to the data shared by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Of the new cases, Kamrup Metro district reported 1,100 cases.

Assam’s Covid19 recovery rate on Monday stood at 85.73%.
