The forest department of Assam gears up to burn a total of 2,479 examined rhino horns at the Bokakhat public playground.
The rhino horns, which have been stored in six different places of the state, will be burnt on September 22, 2021 in the presence of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Assam government has decided to destroy rhino horns, tasks of elephants and body parts of other wild animals, stored in various districts under the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

The rhino horns, tasks of elephants and body parts of other wild animals are now stored in the government treasuries of Morigaon, Barpeta, Mangaldai, Guwahati, Tezpur, Nagaon, Kaziranga and Golaghat.
According to the forest department data, a high-level committee has already examined a total of 2,623 rhino horns and out of that, a total of 2,479 would be destroyed.
The Assam forest department is gearing up for the public burning of 2,489 rhino horns to mark the World Rhino Day.
Gas-powered fireplaces have been arranged at the Bokakhat public playground for the burning.
The preparations for the burning of the rhino horns are underway under the supervision of Chief Wildlife Warden of the state, MK Yadav at the Bokakhat public playground.
On Monday, a total of 2,469 rhinos, which are being conserved at six government treasuries in the state and examined by the high-level monitoring committee, will be relocated to the treasury of Kaziranga National Park.
It is important to note that although rhino horn is not scientifically useful it is used for superstitious beliefs in some countries of the world.
