The first batch of consignment of COVID-19 vaccines for Assam and Meghalaya reached Guwahati on Tuesday evening.
The flight transporting the COVID-19 vaccines consignment, weighing 732 kilograms, landed at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at 5:10pm.
The consignment of COVID-19 vaccines has been immediately shifted to the cold storage, set up adjacent to the Airport.
The consignment of COVID-19 vaccines, which will cater to both Assam and Meghalaya includes 2 lakh 76 thousand doses.
20 boxes containing 12 thousand doses each, arrived at Guwahati on Tuesday.
Of the total 20 boxes that arrived in Guwahati, 17 boxes are for Assam and 3 for Meghalaya.
To fight against COVID-19, the country earlier granted emergency approval to two vaccines — Covishield by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech.
The central government on Monday ordered 11 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India, the Pune-based pharmaceutical firm confirmed.

The cost of the vaccine would be Rs 200 per vaccine dose for the first 100 million doses, the drugmaker noted.
The Centre will start vaccinating frontline workers against coronavirus from January 16.
The Centre will bear the entire cost of vaccinating 30 million health care and frontline workers.
Notably, along with the rest of the country, dry run for COVID-19 vaccination have been conducted successfully in all Northeast States.
