Fire in Dibrugarh kills 5

Five persons of the same family were charred to death on Saturday when a massive fire broke out at Niz Kodomoni area in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The fire broke out at 1:30 am and the five deceased were in deep sleep at the time of the incident.
The five deceased include one woman, two men and two children.

The lady has been identified as Maya Devi among the men, one has been identified as her son Bishal Sonar and the other as their domestic help Nonu.

The two small children have been identified as Maya Devi’s grandsons named Sibu Sonar and Sanku Sonar.

The massive fire destroyed three houses of the family.

The actual reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Locals assume that the fire broke out due to a cylinder blast.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed grief over the incident.

He revealed that the district administration has been directed to conduct an enquiry into the incident.

The CM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to next of kin of the deceased.
