Border tensions between Assam and Mizoram are escalating with every passing day.

While, the Mizoram government has denied reports of miscreants from the State hurling bombs at Assam officials, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has ‘requested’ the Mizoram authorities to take steps so that people in Assam are not attacked and schools in the State are not bombed.

I request our Mizo brethren not to attack people or officials or bomb schools and such in Assam,” DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.

While authorities in Mizoram have rubbished reports of grenade being hurled by miscreants from the State at officials of Assam government near the inter-state border on Saturday, there are unconfirmed reports that at least two more explosions took place along the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district.

Media reports in Assam claim that miscreants from Mizoram side hurled bombs into Assam side causing explosions before dawn on Sunday.

“A border issue dialogue with Mizoram CS L Chuanga & DGP SBK Singh was recently held in Delhi. Assam was represented by Chief Secretary Shri Jishnu Baruah & us. The goal was to bring about amicable solution to the festering border issues,” said Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
