Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia filed nomination for the president post of the Assam Sahitya Sabha on Friday.
Along with Saikia, eminent litterateur Dr Jayshree Goswami Mahanta and noted author Pakhila Kalita also filed nominations for the post.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma‘s mother Mrinalini Devi also filed nomination for the post of vice-president.
Along with her, noted writer Ratimohan Nath and Podumi Gogoi also filed nominations for the post of vice president.
The current secretary-general of the apex literary body Padum Rajkhowa filed nomination on behalf of Debajit Bora for the post.
Overall 7 nominations were filed for the post of president, 4 each for the post of vice president and secretary-general respectively.
Overall 8 nominations were filed at Assam Sahitya Sabha office in Guwahati on Friday.
President Paramananda Rajbongshi, chief election officer Biplab Kumar Sarma and spokesperson of election committee Bijon Mahajan were present during the filing of the nominations.
On Thursday, Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami, Prahlad Chandra Tasa, Dr Karabi Deka and Padma Shri Suryakanta Hazarika filed nominations for the post of president.
Apart from them, Dr Basanta Kumar Sarma filed nominations for the president’s post along with Harendra Kalita filing nominations for the VP’s post and Jadab Chandra Sarma for the secretary general’s post respectively.
The last date for withdrawing nomination is October 7.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised from October 12 to October 15 and after that, the final list of candidates will be declared.
The voting for various posts of Assam Sahitya Sabha will begin on November 1 and continue to December 10.
Members of the different district and zonal branches of the sabha will be able to cast their votes via postal ballot.
