Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi said that education is the central pillar of a nation’s growth.

“Its quality and penetration, its efficacy in terms of producing job-ready graduates with strong ethical values and patriotism determine the future of a nation,” said Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

He said this while addressing the Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors (VCs) during the conference of VCs of six private universities in Guwahati on Friday.

Mukhi said that education always plays a vital role in nation-building and training the youth for the future development of the country.

He said that universities should play a decisive role in churning the students to play the role of catalyst for the growth of the country.

The Governor exhorted on the need for a holistic approach on the part of VC and other stakeholders for the overall development of higher education.

He said that educational objectives may not be achieved if the system is not made effective for sustainable development.

The Governor also said that the development of higher education sans New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is not possible.

Referring to NEP 2020 which puts emphasis on practical learning for every student, Prof. Mukhi advocated for hands-on experimental, analytical and practical learning for all the students.

He also said that close to the mandate of the NEP 2020, efforts should be made to promote traditional Indian knowledge based on scientific temper.

This should be done to create new opportunities for upcoming youth, the Governor added.

He also referred to the newly introduced system called IMPRINT (impacting research innovation and technology) and asked the VCs to use it in order to translate the bookish knowledge into technology-driven knowledge.
