A  cycle ride was organized in Guwahati to mark the celebration of the International Women’s Day.

People all across the world have taken up cycling to keep themselves fit and improve their immunity to fight Covid19.

A lot of women have also taken up cycling as well.

The event was organized on Sunday to encourage more women to join the cycling revolution.

Former international badminton player and national champion  Krishna Hazarika Rao, deputy general manager (DGM), Oil India Limited (OIL) graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Rao said she was quite happy to see the good turnout of women and girls for the ride and hoped more women would take up cycling as a way to keep themselves fit and healthy.

She also rode her cycle along with other participants in the event, the organizers said.

Neha Talukdar, the co-owner of Modern Bikes, felicitated her with an Assamese gamosa.

More than 50 women and girls from different age groups, professions and sections of the society took part in the ride.

“The participants were from all parts of the city and 3 women also came all the way from Rangia to participate. About 20 men and boys also took part  and supported the ride,” the organizers informed.

The ride was flagged off from Dighalipukhuri and the cyclists rode through parts of the city for 10+ km before culminating near Panbazar.

The ride was organised by Modern Bikes with support from Pedal for a Change.

The organizers hoped that more and more women and girls would take up cycling and lead the way in making Guwahati more cycling friendly.
