Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited the Haflong Civil Hospital to assess the isolation ward at the hospital.
Stating the challenges of technicalities involved in a difficult terrain like Dima Hasao especially during the rainy season, Sarma appreciated the efforts of the medical and the civil officials to fight the COVID19 pandemic.
The minister also felicitated the first batch of doctors, nurses and other health staff, who completed their 14-day institutional quarantine after treating COVID19 patients in the hospital.
Health minister Sarma arrived at Haflong on Monday evening to take stock of the COVID19 preparedness in Dima Hasao.
Later in the evening he held a review meeting with the executive members and members of the NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, officials of the health department to discuss the arrangements for fighting against COVID19 in the district.
During the meeting, it was decided that all swab samples collected at Dima Hasao will be tested at Guwahati till the time the lab at Diphu Medical College gets its approval from ICMR for COVID19 tests.
Once the lab at Diphu Medical College is functional, the results of tests for COVID19 will come out in a faster pace to ease the load at the hospital and institutional quarantine centres in this district.
The meeting was held in presence of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) CEM Debolal Gorlosa, local MLA BB Hagjer, NCHAC EM in-charge for medical Samuel Changsan, chairperson Ranu Langthasa.
Sarma was accompanied by MP Pallab Lochan Das, minister of state for health Pijush Hazarika, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang and MP Horensing Bey.
