In view of the spike in COVID-19 positive cases in Assam and detection of Omicron cases, the Gauhati High Court has decided to function virtually from Thursday by listing a limited number of cases.
The court has decided to conduct court proceedings online mode to prevent Covid spread.
“Learned advocates and parties-in-person may mention their matters showing urgency before the concerned courts in the principal seat. The Court, only on being satisfied that the matter is of urgent nature, shall hear such matters,” a notification issued by the court said.
“Only the learned advocates and parties-in-person, whose names appear in the cause list, shall enter the premises of the High Court. Any other individual whose presence is required in the Court shall enter after obtaining prior permission of the Registrar (Administration),” it said.
The notification further stated that wearing masks and maintaining social distancing would be mandatory within the premises of the High Court.
“All lawyers, litigants, members of staff, security staff, etc. having taken both the doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, shall be allowed to enter the High Court premises,” it said.
All lawyers, litigants, members of staff, security staff, etc. shall be subjected to medical screening before entry in the new as well as old High Court building,” the notification said.
Assam on Wednesday reported over 500 COVID cases.
In the past 10 days, Kamrup Metropolitan district has logged the highest cases at 832, followed by Kamrup district (156), Jorhat (105), Dibrugarh (72), Cachar (60), Hojai (50) and Nagaon district (50).
