Amid the nationwide lockdown and the restrictions on the interstate movement of people, Assam has opened its interstate borders to allow entry of people who are stranded in the six neighbouring state–Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur.

Hundred of migrant workers and people who were stuck in Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland breathed a sigh of relief as they entered Assam through the New Field checkpost at Lahorijan over NH 39 and Dillai Gate over NH 36 in Karbi Anglong.

However, the Nagaland border will continue to remain sealed and the lockdown norms shall remain in force.

The Assam police have arranged for health check-ups of returnees and have ensured that all returnees are thoroughly screened before entry into the state.

“A total of 267 people have entered into Assam through Karbi Anglong today,” Bokajan SDPO John Has said.
